Teletherapy activities for OT

We’ve had some questions about pediatric occupational therapy and telehealth so we’ve put together fine motor and visual tracking activities that can be done via telehealth for school aged children! These are mostly math based activities since we are finding a yearning (from both our clients and their parents) to add more academic components to our services. We’re all about killing 2 birds with one stone (no actual birds were harmed in these telehealth activities).
While these are activities our occupational therapists or speech language pathologists may use during their telehealth sessions, these are great for parents to do on their own with their kids as well.  Have fun (while secretly working on  functional goals!)

  • 100 Search: In this “word search” you are looking for numbers that add up to 100.
    • Skills: math skills, visual tracking, fine motor, proper pencil grip and visual processing
  • Changing Grids: In this task clients must draw a picture by making lines and filling in squares. They must transfer the shapes they see in one picture into a different shaped grid.
    • Skills: flexibility with tasks, visual tracking, visual memory, problem solving, fine motor and visual processing
  • Coordinate Messages: Use the grid to decipher a secret message.  Learn about using an X axis and a Y axis (read the X axis first).
    • Skills: fine motor, letter formation, visual tracking, problem solving, executive functioning skills
  • Find Four Squares: On this sheet you will see dots, you need to make 4 squares by connecting the dots.
    • Skills: fine motor skills, flexibility with tasks, visual tracking, visual processing
  • Finding the Uncle: Of course our speech pathologists wanted in on this! This activity has you following directions while finding the picture of the correct uncle.
    • Skills: executive reasoning skills, following multistep directions, auditory processing (if directions are read to client), auditory comprehension skills
  • Flags: Saved our favorite for last!  Kids need to use math skills to figure out what number (1 through 9) corresponds to a flag.
    • Skills: visual processing, executive functioning skills, fine motor skills (writing the numbers under the flag), problem solving
Have fun!
