Happy Holidays!

Winter break is right around the corner! Here are some holiday-themed activities from our wonderful OT Marissa to keep practicing those fine motor skills over the break.

Candy Cane Decorations
This activity helps to improve a child’s pincer grasp skills!
Materials:
  • Small and medium size beads (color and patterns of your choice)
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Skinny ribbon
Directions:
  1. Bend the pipe cleaners into the shape of a candy cane
  2. Tie a knot at the bottom of the candy cane (so the beads do not slide off)
  3. String the beads onto the pipe cleaner with one color or patterns
  4. Tie a knot at the other end of the candy cane to prevent the beads from falling off
  5. If you'd like to use your candy cane as an ornament: tie the ribbon around the top of the candy cane to then hang the ornament from the Christmas tree or as a keychain!

New Years Eve Countdown Clock
This activity uses fine motor skills and helps to start the discussion about time and reading the clock.
Materials:
  • Paper plates
  • Brads
  • Cardstock
  • Single-hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Number stickers/markers
  • Decoration materials: glitter, pipe cleaners, sequins, stickers.
Directions:
  1. Start by making the numbers on your paper plate clock face
  2. Using cardstock, cut out two hands for the clock
  3. Punch a hole in each clock hand and poke a hole in the center of the plate. Attach the clock hands using a brad.
  4. Decorate and get ready to ring in 2019!

Wishing everyone a happy holiday season and a wonderful new year!
